Review: Love Lies Bleeding

Blurb:
To what lengths would you go to keep a past buried?

Samantha Moore is the golden girl—with a perfect job, a perfect man, a perfect life—until a random act of violence changes everything. Unconscious for two months, Sam awakens from her coma a different person—bitter, in constant pain, and forced to endure medications that leave her nauseous, paranoid, and struggling to keep a grip on reality.

Furious with her family for sending her away to a small, remote town to recuperate—placed completely under a physical therapist’s care and robbed of what little freedom she has left—Sam lashes out at the “nice people” all around her who claim to have only her best interests in mind. But are her violent outbursts the by-product of her condition . . . or something else entirely? Strange things are happening here—and either Samantha Moore is losing her mind or her friendly new neighbors are far more dangerous than they appear to be. . . .

My Review:
This book conjured up some very strong feelings in my mind! At first I didn't particularly like Sam..I mean on one hand I could sympathize, but on the other she seems kind of weak. She was willing to let people tell her how to feel and act and live, but at the same time hating every second of how her life turned out. Yes, she suffered a horrible event, but still..

I didn't like Jackson at ALL! I think I started side eying him so hard, I became afraid my eyes were going to get stuck that way! He's was manipulative and eager to please Sam's father more than he seemed to want to please her. It was creepy. HE was creepy.

A magical thing started happening for me around the middle of the book. After a slow start and a "meh" introduction to the main character..she started to become likeable. I don't know if Jess McConkey is a genius or what, but I went from shaking my head at Sam to cheering her own and loving her! She seemed to get past her victim personality and start to take charge and control of her life.  I was very pleased!
This book totally blew me away, after a somewhat rough start. The characters from top to bottom were interesting and well written. I enjoyed reading this! The only downside was the slow start (for me anyways.)
